Internships in the External Relations Office

The External Relations Office (ERO) works to ensure transparency of the Mechanism’s work and to provide key stakeholders and the general public with timely and accurate information about the judicial work and overall operations of the Mechanism. This includes:
- Providing information and content about the Mechanism’s work through its website and social media channels;
- Responding to media inquiries;
- Organising public events;
- Producing informational materials; and
- Developing and implementing external relations activities in relation to various stakeholders.
Internship Description
Interns can assist the entire office, or be primarily assigned to one of the units within the ERO, while also being tasked with work from other units , depending on the needs of the Office. You will also have the opportunity to participate in team meetings, assist in organising events, prepare media monitoring reports, in addition to other tasks.
External Relations Office
Interns in the ERO contribute to both daily activities and various projects, events and productions the office is engaged with. By working with different units in the office and on joint, office-wide projects, you will gain a broad experience and understanding of the communication and external relation processes of the Mechanism.
Press Office
The Press Office communicates the work of the Mechanism to the media and the general public. You will assist the Press Office in a number of tasks, including:
- News monitoring and reporting;
- Drafting, editing and publishing; and
- Helping high-profile events and projects.
Web Unit
The Web Unit manages the digital activities of the Mechanism and interns play a hands-on role in the Unit’s work. You will gain experience in such tasks as:
- Website updating and maintenance;
- Social media content production and evaluation; and
- Photography, graphic design and multi-media production.
Library
You will have the opportunity to work with library staff while gaining experience with tasks including, but not limited to:
- Library reference work;
- Information and library science;
- Acquisitions; and
- Processing.
You would also be involved in various ad-hoc projects related to library databases and bibliographic publications carried out by the Mechanism's Legal Library.
Mechanism Information Programme for Affected Communities
The Mechanism Information Programme for Affected Communities (MIP) aims to contribute to the processes of transitional justice and strengthening the rule of law in the Western Balkans region. The programme seeks to engage the following key stakeholders in the countries of the former Yugoslavia: victims’ groups, young people, educators, media, civil society organisations, and academics. Interns in the MIP will work on the following areas:
- Research;
- Multimedia production;
- Journalism;
- Public affairs; and
- Social media.
What we look for
As an intern in External Relations, depending on the role we generally require that you have a background in one or more of the following fields:
- Journalism;
- Public affairs;
- International relations;
- Library science;
- Social media;
- Web design; or
- Multimedia production.
English and French are the working languages of the Mechanism. Fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of French, Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian or Kinyarwanda is a definite asset. Check each vacancy notice for specific language requirements.
