MIP lecture for the participants of the “True heroes” project
On 24 February 2024, the Mechanism Information Programme for Affected Communities (MIP) held an online lecture for a group of 15 young people from Serbia. The lecture was a part of a wider research project entitled “True heroes” implemented by the Youth Initiative for Human Rights from Serbia (YIHR). The goal of the project is to research and promote stories about people who opposed the war policies of the 1990s.
During the lecture, MIP researcher, Mr. Nemanja Stjepanović, presented the evidence from the archives of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) and the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism) which could be useful for the implementation of the “True heroes” project. He also introduced the participants with the tools for searching the Mechanism Unified Court Records database, so they could find judicially established facts and the evidence material useful for their work.
This lecture forms part of the MIP’s efforts to support projects and events implemented by civil society organisations active in the field of transitional justice in the region of the former Yugoslavia.
The aim of the MIP is to improve the knowledge and understanding of citizens and communities in the countries of the former Yugoslavia about the crimes committed during the conflicts of the 1990s, based on the jurisprudence of the ICTY and the Mechanism. The MIP is funded by the European Union.
