President Agius to pay official visit to the Republic of Croatia next week
Judge Carmel Agius, President of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism), will conduct an official visit to Zagreb, Croatia over three days from 22 to 24 November 2021.
During his visit, President Agius will meet with a number of high-level officials of the Croatian government, as well as representatives of the highest courts in Croatia. The topics to be discussed will include the current activities and priorities of the Mechanism, the importance of regional cooperation on war crimes issues, the possible establishment of an Information Centre on the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, and other matters of mutual interest.
This visit, originally scheduled to take place in April 2020, will be the President's first visit to the region of the former Yugoslavia since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the meantime, throughout the global health crisis, President Agius has continued to actively engage with officials and others from the countries most directly affected by the Mechanism's work.
