United Nations and the Netherlands sign agreement on Mechanism headquarters
The Under-Secretary-General for Legal Affairs and United Nations Legal Counsel, Mr. Miguel de Serpa Soares, and the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, H.E. Mr Karel J.G. van Oosterom, signed yesterday an agreement concerning the headquarters of The Hague branch of the United Nations Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism) in the Netherlands.
The agreement regulates all matters relating to the establishment and proper functioning of the Mechanism in the Netherlands and provides a basis for cooperation between the Mechanism and its Host State, including in the areas of privileges and immunities, provision of facilities and services, and detention matters.
The Host State Agreement for the Mechanism’s Arusha branch, Tanzania, was signed on 26 November 2013.
