Start of Stanišić and Simatović trial on 13 June – Accreditation procedure now open

The accreditation procedure for representatives of the press wishing to attend the start of trial in the case of Jovica Stanišić and Franko Simatović, scheduled before the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals (MICT or Mechanism), for Tuesday 13 June 2017, at 11:30, in Courtroom I, is now open.

Requests for accreditation will be accepted for the first day of the trial, covering the Prosecution opening statement.

The Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals (MICT or Mechanism) hosted, in May 2017, a series of four events in conjunction with the International Council in Archives (ICA) at the Mechanism’s premises in Arusha. The ICA, established in 1948, is an organization dedicated to the effective management of records and the preservation, care and use of the world’s archival heritage.

Prosecutor Serge Brammertz was present today at the advanced training seminar on the prosecution of international crimes that took place in Kigali, Rwanda. With 35 prosecutors from Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya participating in the seminar, the training addressed a broad range of investigative, evidentiary and practical issues and skills that commonly feature in international and complex criminal cases.

Benin signs new Agreement on enforcement of sentences with the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals

On 12 May 2017, the United Nations and the Republic of Benin concluded a revised Agreement on the enforcement of sentences pronounced by either the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) or the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals (MICT).

The Agreement was signed in Cotonou, Benin, by Mr. Olufemi Elias, Registrar of the MICT, on behalf of the United Nations and by H.E. Mr. Aurélien Agbenonci, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Benin.
