Félicien Kabuga appears before the Mechanism for his Initial Appearance

The initial appearance in the case of Prosecutor v. Félicien Kabuga before the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism) was held today, Wednesday, 11 November 2020 in The Hague before Judge Iain Bonomy (United Kingdom), the Presiding Judge of the Trial Chamber. Mr. Félicien Kabuga stands charged of seven counts of genocide and crimes against humanity.

Félicien Kabuga before the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism) has been scheduled for Wednesday, 11 November 2020 at 2.00 p.m. CET in the Courtroom of the Mechanism's Hague branch, pursuant to the “Order Scheduling an Initial Appearance” issued by Judge Iain Bonomy on 8 November 2020.

History teachers from Serbia trained in use of ICTY and Mechanism archives

On 24 October 2020, the Mechanism Information Programme for Affected Communities (MIP) held an online workshop for 30 high school history teachers from Serbia.

This was the eighth in a series of MIP workshops and focused on how history teachers can best include judicially established facts in educational material related to the conflicts of 1990s in the former Yugoslavia.

The MIP workshops are implemented in cooperation with the European Association of History Teachers (EUROCLIO) and associations of history teachers from the countries of the former Yugoslavia.

President Agius launches second cycle of Mechanism’s Inter-University Video Lecture Programme

Judge Carmel Agius, President of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism), today launched the second cycle of the Mechanism’s Inter-University Video Lecture Programme (Programme) by delivering a lecture on the creation and jurisdiction of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY).

Start of trial in the Turinabo et al. contempt case: Practical information and case background

The trial in the contempt case of Prosecutor v. Maximilien Turinabo et al. (MICT-18-116-T) before the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism) will commence on Thursday, 22 October 2020 at 10 a.m. EAT and 9 a.m CEST at the Mechanism’s Arusha branch. The proceedings before Judge Vagn Joensen, the Single Judge assigned to the case, will begin with opening statements from the parties, followed by the expected presentation of evidence on Monday, 26 October 2020. President Carmel Agius today presented the eighth Annual Report of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism) to the United Nations General Assembly. The President commenced by congratulating His Excellency Mr. Volkan Bozkir from Turkey on his election as President of the historic seventy-fifth session of the General Assembly, and expressing his gratitude to the United Nations Secretary-General, Legal Counsel, and Office of Legal Affairs for their support of the Mechanism’s work.
