On 15 December 2020, the Mechanism Information Programme for Affected Communities (MIP) held a workshop for a group of journalists from Montenegro on accessing and searching the judicial archives. The workshop was organized by the Montenegrin office of the Youth Initiative for Human Rights (YIHR). The Mechanism’s representatives presented virtually from The Hague, while the journalists gathered in the YIHR’s recently established Information and Documentation Center in Podgorica, Montenegro.

The President of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism), Judge Carmel Agius, yesterday presented the Mechanism’s seventeenth progress report to the United Nations Security Council (Council) by video-teleconference from The Hague.

Prosecutor of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism) Serge Brammertz today addressed the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

He began by informing the Security Council that in-court proceedings have recommenced, only five months after the COVID-19 pandemic forced the Mechanism to shift to remote working arrangements.

On 6 December 2020, Mechanism Information Programme for Affected Communities (MIP) researcher Nemanja Stjepanović held a lecture for young people from Serbia entitled “What Do We Know About the Srebrenica Genocide Today?” The lecture was held as part of an online seminar entitled “Practices of Remembering the Srebrenica Genocide”, organized by the Youth Initiative for Human Rights Serbia and Forum ZFD Serbia.

Mechanism Prosecutor Serge Brammertz visited Kigali from 30 November to 4 December 2020, as part of preparations for his regular biannual report to the UN Security Council (UNSC).

On 3 December 2020, the Registrar of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (“Mechanism”), Mr. Abubacarr Tambadou, concluded his first visit to Dar es Salaam in his capacity as Registrar of the Mechanism. During his visit, Registrar Tambadou met with senior officials of the United Republic of Tanzania, as well as some members of the diplomatic community in Dar es Salaam.

On 29 November 2020, the Mechanism Information Programme for Affected Communities (MIP) held a lecture for journalists from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia on judicially-established facts about the Srebrenica genocide in ICTY and Mechanism cases. The lecture was part of an online seminar entitled “Media reporting on the Srebrenica genocide”, organized by the Independent Journalists’ Association of Vojvodina and Forum ZFD Serbia.

On 21 November 2020, the Mechanism’s Information Programme for Affected Communities (MIP) held an online workshop on the use of the ICTY and Mechanism archives for more than 35 history teachers from across Croatia and neighbouring countries. This was the first event in a series of workshops and trainings to be held for history educators in Croatia.

The Coordinator of the Mechanism Information Programme for Affected Communities (MIP), Rada Pejić-Sremac, spoke today at a workshop entitled Transitional Justice through Montenegrin and Regional Experience, which was organized by the Montenegrin Centre for Civic Education.

The online workshop gathered together legal experts, young professionals in the Montenegrin judiciary, civil society representatives, and law students from the University of Montenegro, Mediterranean University, and University of Donja Gorica.

The youth outreach coordinator of the Mechanism Information Programme for Affected Communities (MIP), Ms. Anisa Sućeska, today held a workshop on how to use and search the judicial archives of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) and International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism), for participants of the 27th Annual Conference of the European Association of History Teachers (EUROCLIO).
