The Agreement between the United Nations and the Kingdom of the Netherlands concerning the Headquarters of the Mechanism entered into force today.
 
The Headquarters Agreement regulates all matters relating to the establishment and proper functioning of the Mechanism in the Netherlands and provides a basis for cooperation between the Mechanism and its Host State, including in the areas of privileges and immunities, provision of facilities and services, and detention matters.

The Prosecutor of the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals (MICT) and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), Serge Brammertz, paid a courtesy call on the President of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights, Justice Augustino S. L. Ramadhani on 24 August.

Prosecutor Brammertz and President Ramadhani discussed a range of topical issues of common interest including possibilities for cooperation between the African Court and the MICT Office of the Prosecutor.

President Meron discusses judicial cooperation with African and East African institutions

The President of the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals (MICT), Judge Theodor Meron, today met with Justice Augustino S. L. Ramandhani, President of the African Court on Human and People’s Rights, and Justice Dr. Emanuel Ugirashebuja, President of the East Africa Court of Justice, along with the Judges of its Appellate Division. Both meetings took place in Arusha, United Republic of Tanzania, where all three of these judicial institutions have headquarters.

On 23 July 2016, Prosecutor Serge Brammertz and the ICTY Office of the Prosecutor (OTP) were recognized with the 2016 Mostar Peace Connection award by the Center for Peace and Multi-ethnic Cooperation Mostar. Prosecutor Brammertz accepted the award on behalf of OTP staff, past and present, during a ceremony in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

MICT Progress Report: Prosecutor Serge Brammertz Addresses the United Nations Security Council

The Prosecutor of the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals (MICT), Mr Serge Brammertz, presented today the Office of the Prosecutor’s (OTP) 8th progress report to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), covering the period from 16 November 2015 to 15 May 2016. The Prosecutor updated the UNSC on MICT trials and appeals, ICTR cases referred to national courts and efforts to locate and arrest the remaining eight ICTR fugitives.

The President of the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals (MICT), Judge Theodor Meron, today addressed the United Nations Security Council to present the latest six-month progress report on the work of the Mechanism.

The President noted that, in the reporting period, the Mechanism assumed responsibility for the retrial in the case of Jovica Stanišić and Franko Simatović, as well as for appeal proceedings in the cases of Radovan Karadžić and Vojislav Šešelj.

Book Launch: Prosecuting Conflict-Related Sexual Violence at the ICTY

On Tuesday, 31 May, The Hague Institute for Global Justice and the Office of the Prosecutor (OTP), with support from the Embassies of Australia, Sweden and the United Kingdom, hosted the inaugural book launch for “Prosecuting Conflict-Related Sexual Violence at the ICTY”. The volume is edited by Prosecutor Serge Brammertz and Deputy to the Prosecutor Michelle Jarvis and published by Oxford University Press.
