The Appeals Chamber of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals, composed of Judge Theodor Meron, presiding, Judge Bakone Justice Moloto, Judge Christoph Flügge, Judge Burton Hall, and Judge Liu Daqun, delivered today its judgement on the appeal lodged by Augustin Ngirabatware.

The Prosecutor of the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism) and the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR), Justice Hassan B. Jallow, today briefed members of the United Nations Security Council on the activities of the Mechanism-OTP and the ICTR-OTP over the last six months.

Today the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) celebrated the 20th anniversary of its establishment and presented its new legacy website in The Hague. The commemoration took place in the lobby of its sister tribunal, the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in The Hague, which shares its premises with the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals (MICT).

Media are invited to attend the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda’s (ICTR) 20th anniversary celebration and launch of its new website to be held in The Hague on Friday, 5 December 2014. This event is part of a series of celebrations marking the establishment of the Tribunal by the United Nations Security Council on 8 November 1994.

The commemoration will take place from 10:00am until 12:00pm on 5 December in the lobby of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), the ICTR’s sister tribunal.

On Saturday, 8 November, Mr. John Hocking, Assistant Secretary-General, Registrar of the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals (MICT) signed the certificate of occupancy for the new premises for the MICT’s Arusha branch, on behalf of the United Nations.

This certificate, required under Tanzanian law, grants the MICT a 99-year lease to the 6.5 hectares of land which will house the new MICT facility.

On Monday 3 November, the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals (MICT) held a public opening of bids for the construction of the new home for its Arusha branch. This timely tender opening marks a key advancement in this project. The submission of bids will be followed by the fair and transparent evaluation of the firms that will be competing for the construction of the new premises.

As part of the celebrations for its 20th anniversary, the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) has launched today a new multilingual legacy website. The website features a tribute video narrated by actor Clarke Peters.

The new legacy website will be the virtual face of the ICTR after the Tribunal closes down. With the support of the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals, the website’s content will continue to be updated so that information on the work and achievements of the ICTR will remain accessible to future generations.
