The Mechanism launches mentoring programme for Arusha girls
The Arusha branch of the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals (MICT) joins the worldwide celebrations of the 2015 International Women’s Day (IWD) by launching its “Make Her Future Happen: Mentoring Programme for Arusha Girls”. The initiative translates this year’s IWD global theme, “Make it Happen”, into a commitment with the local community which will continue well beyond the 8th of March.
Ground-breaking at Lakilaki marks start of construction of the new Arusha premises
The Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals (MICT) and Jandu Plumbers Ltd. broke ground at Lakilaki today. The symbolic turning of the sod marked this week’s start of the scheduled 12-month works that will give a new home to the Mechanism in Arusha.
One kilometre of ICTR records transferred to the Mechanism’s Archives and Records Section
With the completion of the 96th transfer of records from the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) to the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals (MICT), the Mechanism Archives and Records Section (MARS) is now the custodian of over 1,000 linear metres of ICTR archives.
Linear metres describe the amount of shelf space required to store physical records, and are a standard unit used to measure the quantity of records managed by an archival institution.
United Nations and the Netherlands sign agreement on Mechanism headquarters
The Under-Secretary-General for Legal Affairs and United Nations Legal Counsel, Mr. Miguel de Serpa Soares, and the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, H.E. Mr Karel J.G. van Oosterom, signed yesterday an agreement concerning the headquarters of The Hague branch of the United Nations Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism) in the Netherlands.

Today, Judge Theodor Meron, President of the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism), delivered remarks at the inauguration ceremony of the African Institute of International Law held in Arusha, Tanzania.
The event was attended by a number of dignitaries from national and international judicial and governmental bodies, UN representatives and members of the legal community and academia.
