Internships in the Registry

The Registry provides administrative, legal, policy and diplomatic support services to the Office of the President, Chambers and the Office of the Prosecutor in the performance of their respective responsibilities.
The Registry’s main duties include, among others:
- Maintaining contact with the United Nations Headquarters, the host countries and other United Nations Member States regarding general cooperation with and assistance to the Mechanism;
- Managing the United Nations detention facilities;
- Monitoring the enforcement of sentences;
- Protecting victims and witnesses; and
- Providing assistance to national jurisdictions.
Internship Description
As a legal intern supporting the Registry, you may be responsible for comprehensive legal research on matters of:
- Public international law;
- International criminal law;
- Private international law;
- Administrative law;
- International humanitarian law; or
- Criminal law.
Other duties include:
- Drafting and reviewing legal submissions, official correspondence, memoranda, talking points and decisions;
- Assisting with the provision of legal advice on administrative legal matters and on the internal regulations and rules of the United Nations.
What we look for
To be a successful internship candidate for the Registry, you should have:
- Strong academic credentials;
- Demonstrated research, analytical and drafting skills; and
- An interest in the areas of criminal law, public international law, international criminal law, international humanitarian law, or human rights law.
English and French are the working languages of the Mechanism. Fluency in oral and written English is required. Fluency in oral and written French is an advantage. Check each vacancy notice for specific language requirements.
