President Meron speaks at the 111th Annual Meeting of the American Society for International Law
The President of the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals (MICT or Mechanism), Judge Theodor Meron, on Friday, 14 April 2017, delivered remarks at the 111th Annual Meeting of the American Society for International Law (ASIL) in Washington, DC, United States of America. Speaking at the panel entitled “The Future of International Criminal Justice”, President Meron outlined the vital role of international tribunals in this context over the past two decades and emphasized their continued importance in helping to strengthen respect for the rule of law and to uphold the fight against impunity for serious violations of international law.
Organized around the theme of “What International Law Values”, this year’s Annual Meeting provided an opportunity to a large number of international lawyers, jurists, scholars and diplomats to explore a broad range of topics through 40 substantive panels and to engage with renowned figures in the field of international law.
ASIL is a non-profit, nonpartisan, educational membership organization, founded in 1906 with the aim to foster the study of international law and to promote the establishment and maintenance of international relations on the basis of law and justice.
