Successful Conclusion of the Fifth Cycle of the Mechanism’s Inter-University Video Lecture Programme

The fifth cycle of the Mechanism's Inter-University Video Lecture Programme (Programme) concluded today with a lecture by the Coordinator of the Mechanism Information Programme for Affected Communities (MIP) – Ms. Rada Pejić-Sremac. She discussed the role and work of the outreach programmes of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) and International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT).

Statement by Mechanism Judges on the “Ethical Principles for International Criminal Judges”

Today, during their in-person Plenary Session in Arusha, the Judges of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism) considered the “Ethical Principles for International Criminal Judges” (Ethical Principles), which were adopted in Paris on 15 May 2023 within the framework of the “Ethica” project. This initiative was organised by the French national school for the judiciary, in partnership with the International Nuremberg Principles Academy and the Siracusa International Institute for Criminal Justice and Human Rights.

Valentin Ćorić completes his sentence on conditional early release under the supervision of the Mechanism

Valentin Ćorić, one of the six convicted persons in the Prosecutor v. Prlić et al. case yesterday completed his 16-year sentence, handed down by a Trial Chamber of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) on 29 May 2013 and affirmed on appeal by the ICTY Appeals Chamber on 29 November 2017.  

Mechanism’s Chambers Legal Support Section holds workshop for legal staff of the Court of BiH

Today, representatives of the Mechanism’s Chambers Legal Support Section held a workshop for legal staff at the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The objective of the workshop was to familiarize the participants with the Mechanism’s Case Law Database and to share with them the Mechanism’s best practices in providing legal support to judges adjudicating cases of war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide.

Serge Brammertz, Prosecutor of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism), today addressed the United Nations Security Council about the work of the Office of the Prosecutor (OTP).

Prosecutor Brammertz began by informing the Council that the OTP has completed its important mandate to prosecute the final ICTR and ICTY cases.
