Mechanism Information Programme Representative Holds Workshop on Searching the Judicial Archives at 27th EUROCLIO Annual Conference

The youth outreach coordinator of the Mechanism Information Programme for Affected Communities (MIP), Ms. Anisa Sućeska, today held a workshop on how to use and search the judicial archives of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) and International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism), for participants of the 27th Annual Conference of the European Association of History Teachers (EUROCLIO).

The workshop presented today is part of the Mechanism’s training programme for high-school history teachers, which is jointly implemented by the MIP, EUROCLIO, and associations of history teachers from the six countries of the former Yugoslavia.

Ms. Sućeska explained that the aim of the training programme is to assist history teachers in the countries of the former Yugoslavia to best utilise archival material and judicially-established facts when creating history lessons about the conflicts of the 1990s.

MIP consultant Mr. Rodoljub Jovanović and Mr. Igor Radulović, a representative of the Montenegrin Association for History Teachers, also participated in today’s workshop and emphasized that the archives of the ICTY and Mechanism represent a unique resource for teachers wanting to educate their students about the conflicts and the crimes committed during them.

The aim of the MIP is to improve the knowledge and understanding of citizens and communities in the countries of the former Yugoslavia about the crimes committed during the conflicts of the 1990s, based on ICTY and Mechanism cases. The MIP is generously supported by the European Union and the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.
