MIP initiates second cycle of workshops for history teachers from Pristina

On 4 March 2023, the Mechanism’s Information Programme for Affected Communities (MIP) held an online workshop on the use of ICTY and Mechanism archives for more than 30 history teachers from Pristina. With this workshop, the MIP initiated the second cycle of its workshops for history teachers from Pristina since the project commenced in January 2019.

The workshop, led by MIP coordinator Ms. Rada Pejić-Sremac and MIP youth outreach coordinator Ms. Anisa Sućeska, was organised in cooperation with the History Teachers’ Association of Kosovo and the European Association of History Teachers (EUROCLIO). The aim of the workshop was to train the participating teachers on how to effectively use judicially established facts when creating educational material related to the 1990s conflicts in the former Yugoslavia.

To provide a regional perspective during its workshops, the MIP has closely cooperated with teachers’ associations from across the former Yugoslavia. Ten focal points from these associations also participated in today’s workshop. They shared their experiences, including some of the challenges of teaching the history of the 1990s conflicts in their own countries.

During today’s session, the trainers and regional focal points worked with the participating teachers to prepare lectures and educational plans for high‑school students, by using testimonies and other material from the digital archives of the ICTY and Mechanism. 

Workshops on the use of the ICTY and Mechanism archives for history educators form part of the wider MIP, which is funded by the European Union.

The aim of the MIP is to improve the knowledge and understanding of citizens and communities in the countries of the former Yugoslavia about the crimes committed during the conflicts of the 1990s, based on ICTY and Mechanism cases.
