MIP hosts online workshops for University of Sarajevo law students and alumni

Today, the Mechanism Information Programme for Affected Communities (MIP) organised an online workshop for students and faculty members of the Law Faculty of the University of Sarajevo, as well as alumni of the MIP Inter-University Video Lecture Programme.

The event aimed to help participants explore the legacy of the ICTY and the Mechanism as they prepare for the ICC Moot Court 2024. This initiative benefits alumni students by enhancing their knowledge and skills in international criminal law.

Ms. Laurel Baig, Senior Appeals Counsel in the Office of the Prosecutor, delivered a presentation and conducted an online session with law students. She focused on advocacy and practice in ICTY cases, providing practical advice on oral presentations in the courtroom.

This workshop is the second in a series, following a successful session in March. In the previous session, Ms. Evangelia Sarikaki, Legal Officer in the Office of the President, provided participants with guidance on written memorials and legal writing skills, using examples from the ICTY and Mechanism jurisprudence.

The workshop series is built upon the Inter-University Video Lecture Programme and its lecture series entitled "International Law and Facts Established before the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY)". Organised by the MIP since 2019, this Programme has brought together postgraduate students from 14 law faculties and one faculty of political science across the former Yugoslavia region. The aim is not only to introduce students to the judicial legacy of the ICTY and enhance their knowledge of the 1990s conflict and related judicially established facts but also to foster dialogue among students.

The Inter-University Video Lectures Programme is part of the wider MIP, which is funded by the European Union.

The aim of the MIP is to improve the knowledge and understanding of citizens and communities in the countries of the former Yugoslavia about the crimes committed during the conflicts of the 1990s, based on the jurisprudence of the ICTY and Mechanism.
